It has been said that for the most part, Islam is a religion of peace. Yet, we see that the majority of modern day terrorism is committed by those people who are of the Islamic faith.
Is it actually an acceptable part of the Islam faith to commit these acts or is it just some twisted interpretation of their beliefs by a small group of outlaws?

I don't think Islam has ever been a "religion of peace." Isn't it a part of their religion to fight against the infidels (which is everyone who is not part of their religion)? Islam has always been violent; the Crusades are a good example of this, as well as the current violence against Christians in Iraq. Another thought: Islam has the penalty of death if one of their own converts to another faith (if they are caught).
