The reaction equation is: 2 KClO3 + heat ¨ 2KCl + 3O2ª So we see for every 2 molecules of potassium chlorate used, 3 molecules of oxygen gas (as O2) were produced. We can say for every 2 moles of KClO3 we produced 3 moles of O2. From the data in part A and the gas laws, we can find that at STP 21.01 ml. of oxygen were produced, and since 1 mole occupies 22.414 liters at STP, we have 0.938 millimole of oxygen produced. So to begin we would have had two-thirds that amount, or 0.6253 millimole of KClO3, which answers part A - 0.0006253 mole of KClO3. The molecular weight of KClO3 is 122.6, so 0.6253 millimole of it has a mass of 76.67 milligrams, or 0.07667 gm. Since the total mass of the mixture is given as 0.1054 gm. the percent by mass of KClO3 is .07667 / 0.1054 or 72.7% - which answers part B.

How much would you say you really care about political issues in general? (Pick one: Definitely care, care, kind of care, mostly indifferent, or don't care.)
